Working Conditions Among Suppliers
Lagerhaus is a member of the Business Social Compliance Initiative (BSCI) through the Axstores group. An organisation with over 1300 members who are working together to improve conditions in the supply chain.
As a member of the BSCI, we apply a shared code of conduct that is based on the United Nations Declaration of Human Rights and the ILO's conventions concerning working conditions. The BSCI audit system is a European initiative intended to improve the social and environmental working conditions in supplier countries through a standardised audit method. The BSCI makes it easy for suppliers, who only need to adhere to a code of conduct. The BSCI conducts training with the suppliers to increase their understanding of the value of social improvements in factories and to support them in change work.
We work together with our colleagues in the production offices and the independent inspectors to ensure that the suppliers live up to our requirements. We also support them in improvement work to increase knowledge of social challenges.
If our suppliers are not living up to our code of conduct, we take action. Repeated or very serious violations can lead to termination of a business relationship, although we always initially strive to improve the situation.
Below are some examples of what is covered by the BSCI code of conduct:
• Laws and regulations
• Ban on child labour
• Ban on forced labour
• Ban on discrimination
• Rules on wages and compensation
• Overtime regulation
• Health and safety requirements
• Working environment requirements
• Freedom of association
• Environmental requirements
