Global Organic Textile Standard

GOTS stands for Global Organic Textile Standard and is an international standard for organically produced textiles. The GOTS certification labels products that meet strict criteria for ecological and social sustainability throughout the production chain.

Requirements for GOTS certification:


  • Organic origin of raw materials: Raw materials such as cotton and wool must be cultivated according to organic principles without the use of synthetic pesticides or fertilizers.

  • Social criteria: GOTS imposes requirements on social justice and working conditions. This means that workers have the right to freely form and join trade unions or other work-related organizations without pressure from the employer. Workers also have the right to fair working conditions and a reasonable wage.

  • Environmental criteria: The production process must be environmentally friendly, including restrictions on chemical use and requirements for wastewater treatment.

  • High quality: Products must meet high-quality standards to ensure durability and long-term use.
